Marguerite Appel (MA) was born in Bushton, Kansas in 1907. She received her A.B. from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and her M.A. from the University of Minnesota. Prior to working at Ohio University (OU), MA held positions at high schools in Kansas and Michigan, and also worked at Indiana University. MA accepted a faculty position at OU in Athens, Ohio, in 1945 as an instructor in secretarial studies in the College of Commerce. In 1960, MA joined the faculty of OU going to Nigeria for t...

In 1984, it was changed back to Athena .
